I think that this is going to be one of the worst elections for the LP and may bump them further down in the 3rd party rankings, and Ron Paul isn't helping.
Perhaps Ron Paul is basing his choice on principles instead of "lesser of the evils" or of helping a party for which he continues to have some affinity.

I find the Constitution Party's positions on the United States being a Christian nation, its position on abortion, and its opposition to holding another constitutional convention objectionable but I find Bob Barr's position on interventionism even more objectionable, particularly because interventionism has been American foreign policy since the early 20th century and played the predominant role in causing 9/11.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

I know some libertarians that are voting for Chuck Baldwin, Bob Barr is just that bad. The constitutional party would not be so bad if they did not insist on re-writing US history.

Yes, Bob Barr is just that bad. As for the Constitution Party, I wouldn't say it is so much re-writing history as it is denying history. There's no way you can get "Christian nation" or "Judeo-Christian values" from reading the Constitution.

As I indicated in the original post, I'm conflicted between helping make the Libertarian Party viable (since third parties become viable when people vote for them) or voting based on principles I support.

I can relate. I held my nose and voted to help make the Libertarian Party more viable, since with Ron Paul out of the race there was no one running whose principles I could support. Ron Paul is a Christian and his stance on abortion, while perhaps Constitutionally correct, was the only part of his platform I disagreed with.

So I wasn't surprised to see Ron Paul endorse Chuck Baldwin, although I WAS disappointed.

It's always tough seeing your party "abandon" you, so to speak. I re-registered Independent some years ago for that very reason, even though it precludes me from state primaries.

One thing I like about Tennessee is that an Independent can vote in the primaries.

Which makes no sense to me since the purpose of the primaries is for individual parties to choose their nominee for a particular office.

I think they should just do away with primaries entirely and have the various parties privately select their nominees (perhaps by having party members do secret ballot that is submitted to the state or county party headquarters).

Paul's endorsement of Baldwin was a "**** you" to Barr, who pulled out of the 3rd Party Debate at the last minute and made it a marginal affair. It's got nothing to do with ideology.
