Looks like the report is in and it doesn't look too good for Sarah Palin. Even though she had good reason to fire Walter Monegan, the committee stated that it's likely that a family grudge may have been a contributing factor. "It's likely" and "it was for sure" are two completely different things, so it is not for certain that it was a contributing reason. Regardless, I am sure that a few points will be lost for the McCain campaign due to this report.
Could the results of the report been politically motivated and was the legislative committee biased?? We may never know. What do you think? Quote:

The verdict is in. Oddly enough it's not the same as the one Palin put out the other day, clearing herself.
![]() Ethics investigation finds Palin abused power Legislative committee releases investigation into firing of public official ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain's Republican ticket. Investigator Stephen Branchflower, in a report by a bipartisan panel that investigated the matter, found Palin in violation of a state ethics law that prohibits public officials from using their office for personal gain. The inquiry looked into her dismissal of Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan, who said he lost his job because he resisted pressure to fire a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce with the governor's sister. Palin says Monegan was fired as part of a legitimate budget dispute. The panel found that Palin let the family grudge influence her decision-making even if it was not the sole reason Monegan was dismissed. "I feel vindicated," Monegan said. "It sounds like they've validated my belief and opinions. And that tells me I'm not totally out in left field." Branchflower said Palin violated a statute of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Palin and McCain's supporters had hoped the inquiry's finding would be delayed until after the presidential election to spare her any embarrassment and to put aside an enduring distraction as she campaigns as McCain's running mate in an uphill contest against Democrat Barack Obama. McCain has a great reason now to drop her and pick Ron Paul. That would be the best strategy he could do right now.

What gauls me is that they got caught for this little nothing affair while it looks like Gonzalas is getting off scot free. Do you think the next administration will pursue the crimes of this one? I just get the feeling they are going to bury their sins under the rug and move on...

I had an interesting meeting with an elected R official this evening. She said the party is too infested with these folks to save. She is about to come over to our ranks. She is worried that they (the kool-aid drinkers) will trigger confligration. I too am worried of the same. These people have become irrational and dangerous.
