Not necessarily.

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

This is just sad but it just goes to show you Darwin can pop up his head any where.

You're stuck with either tyranny of the majority or tyranny of the minority, pick one.

As far as the United States goes, it does matter.
So if the country was founded on racism and inequality, you'd support that we kept those qualities for all time?

I don't consider the United States to be "grown up" in its present form. The big government nanny state is not a grown up government.
That's a personal opinion, but the point still remains that nations move on from what they were founded on, they do and should.

Voting isn't what makes a country a democracy.

I don't have to settle for either.

Irrelevant.

Whether they should "move on" is subject to debate but the result of the United States moving away from the principles set forth in the Constitution has been disastrous.

It's a big part of it, or do you think that you can have a democracy without voting?

Actually, yes you do, any governmental structure (even none) can be described as tynanny of the majority or minority, so as everything is one of those, you have to pick one of those.

I would disagree that they have been "disastrous," we are in a far better place now, than in 1790.

I'm saying you can have voting without having democracy.

I choose to reject both.

Cough, cough, choke, choke! Surely, you jest!

No, we are far better off now than we were then, even with what Bush has done.

I'd agree. The kid was too young to decide if he wanted a beer or a whiskey but apparently old enough to decide to refuse medical treatment on religious grounds. The state legislature should bump up the age to refuse medical treatment to the age of majority.

The tyranny of the majority is from a essay by mills referring to democracy, at least that is where it became popular.
It is when the majority makes oppressive decisions controlling the minority.

Wiki actually has a well written article on this, On Liberty

The tyranny of the majority is a dangerous thing.
We already have laws that are based on that concept.
