This is a pretty tough one. There doesn't seem to be much that can be done in a legal sense. Whether or not we should allow 14 year old kids to make this decision is something I wouldn't want to be in charge of deciding.

Yes, under current law, they have not broken any laws as the child was over the minimum age, and gave his own "consent." I'm just saying that if I was making the laws (mwa ha ha), the age would be raised because minors can't give consent.

Since the United States is not a democracy, no.

What you call the will of the people can just as easily be called tyranny of the majority and I oppose the tyranny of the majority.

As far as the United States goes, it does matter.

I don't consider the United States to be "grown up" in its present form. The big government nanny state is not a grown up government.

When they fall outside the scope of the Constitution and when they interfere with parental sovereignty, yes. I don't believe in a separate class of crimes based on the victims being children. Assault is assault regardless of the age of the victim. Rape is rape regardless of the age of the victim. Murder is murder regardless of the age of the victim.
