Yes, that's what they're saying now. Again, what happens when the kid doesn't bring his backpack to school? What happens if he gets a new backpack? But what you're not getting is where this kind of thing leads.

A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air. "Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. "I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up." The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation. "Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves." |

No, I get where your paranoia leads, but step away from your fear and think logically. Do you honestly think anyone would even suggest putting microchips in the bodies of kids? Give me a break. This is right up there with the "We can't let gays marry because then people will marry goats" argument.

Well, I do not see it. All this does is track when the kids get on and off the bus. To claim that it will lead to microchips in the bodies of people is ludicrous. As I said before, better stop carrying your cell phone, as they can track where you are using it. Got onstar? Better get it removed from your car as they always know where you are. Etc etc.
It is paranoia.

I don't really see the big deal. This is an interesting tracking mechanism. Students do not have the same level of rights as adults. Rights are limited for minors in school. Instead of the bag, put it on something else they always carry around like--shock--an ID card.
Ideally, the tracking system would be active all throughout the school, allowing administrators and parents to know where they are and if they are in the school. Surveillance is a good thing, and this is public property anyway. You are out in the open. Privacy rights are limited there too.

The parents can have a say. Ultimately, it should be up to the school as a tracking mechanism on school property. What the parents want is just added benefit. It would probably only be used in bad and depressed areas anywhere. If they can successfully do what it does more cheaply another way, go for it.
