I wont completely argue with that, though gradual rise is putting it nicely. It is a factor, but i would suggest more of a factor is the media and particularly tabloid press, anyone spending a significant amount of time in the country could tell this. Large sections of the media - mainly the Murdoch empire run with scare stories about immigrants, particularly muslims. They put fear in the public conciousness and play into the hands of the racists by doing so.

Just not true. If you want to know the real media bias you should know that the largest ever terrorist haul was conducted against a BNP member, but the only place this was recorded was on local news. Yet for every muslim suspected of terrorism it is front page news for days. The media silence was deafening. That is the reality of the media, regardless of what you may believe.

Well given that a police officer is to uphold the law and treat all equal before th law it would be hypocritical to let someone who is a member of a racist, anti semitic, anti Islam. holocaust denying party join. They are obviously unfit for the job.
For someone who is acting all worried about democracy you seem to pick really strange battles, such as arguing in favour of a fascist racist party - that being the most certain way to destroy democracy.
