Civil unions for everyone, marriage for people who are religious.

The religions should have the right to any special designation they want to give. The state should not.
Again, Marriage wasn't orginally a religious, or at least certainly not christian institution! There was marriage in Rome when everyone was pagan.

Ummm Pagan is a religious identifier in it's own right. It may not be as coherent or popular are Christianity, but religion none the less.

Beyond this, the legal definition of marriage and rights and responsibilities there of have changed significantly since that time.

I don't see the point.

Do you think the Church controls the State more than the State controls the Church, if you get my meaning?

I have always though the Church has more influence over the State...that's just my opinion, mind.
