I tried to do this a little over a year ago, but I didn't have much experience then and I had a hard time attracting interest.

I am considering starting a discussion/support forum for gays, lesbians, queers and allies. You don't have to be gay or even support the mythical "gay agenda", but you do have to be respectful, or be restricted to the "deviants" section of the forum.

How many people would be interested in such a site? I would appreciate positive responses only, please. In other words, if you would be interested in such a place, please drop a comment in this thread. If you think it's the gayest thing you've ever heard and wouldn't be caught dead posting in a ****** forum, STFU and don't post in this thread either.

I wouldn't be interested in such a site, but not because of any animosity towards gays or anything like that. It's just that I joined a yahoogroup like that once, not knowing what it was. I was looking for a Libertarian email list and it was advertised as a Libertarian Salon. I discovered quickly that I was one of only two or three straights there. I didn't have a problem with that, though and stuck it out for several months. The list moved several times and I moved with it but finally dropped out because I had joined to discuss Libertarianism which we did at first in regard to homosexual, transgender and sex worker issues, but when people started posting links to homosexual sites with descriptions and photos, well that ruined it for me since that isn't why I joined.

So I just wanted to say that it would be a good idea for you to determine the exact focus of your proposed group before you create it. If you want to provide support for homosexuals and have a group consisting of both gays and straights to discuss issues, that is one thing but if you encourage members to post sites with descriptions and photos, that may (or may not) attract the people you want but will turn off straights.

I'm just sharing my experience with such a group and don't intend to criticize it in any way.

There are countless forums of these out there already. They are apparently available for every language/ethnic group on the planet and are all generally filled with exactly the same type of people (the kind of people you will find at every 'support group' thingie, indeed, they are probably all the same people going from one support group meeting to the next).

That's all it will be though. A little coffee club for one little clique. And after a couple of weeks they run out of things to say so they resort to posting pix of their favorite crushes. There's thousands of this type of group out there, they are more numerous than 'actual' support groups.

Most genuine support groups focus on specific and geninue issues that need support. Homosexuality is generally not one of them.

yeah, the trick is to be fun and unique, and not expect it to pay the bills or anything. I'm not sure what "type of people" you're referring to, but thanks for the comments anyway.

Your first post was somewhat helpful. This one is just lame. No one is forcing or even asking you to join. I haven't even built it yet, or decided if I'm going to. Please reread the OP.

The same type of people one always runs into at "support groups". Support group junkies might be a better word. Seems this type is fairly common, or a common form of social bonding.

But anyway, if you want your group, create it. What is market research for something that is free?

If you feel it would be useful and desirable to do it, do it. What difference does it make if it is not popular? If it is a good thing for you, do it. If it isn't, don't. Popularity ought not to have anything to do with this.

In fact, before this thread devolves into an insult contest like every other thread that has anything at all to do with homosexuality, I'm changing my mind. You can PM me with your thoughts and comments, good or bad.
