I don't know much about Malcolm X but I do have a basic knowledge and I wanted to have a thread for basic discussion about him and his beliefs, and what people believe about his actions.

He was basically rascist against whites. Despised christianity with a passion, spent much of his younger years dealing drugs money and prostitutes which landed him in jail. In jail he became a converted muslim and when he got out advocated for Blacks to rise against whites and take back their rightful place.

Very vaugely, he was Hitler for afircan americans, but never got to high enough power to do major damage. He was assassinated by member's of his own religion.

That's slightly untrue, he was killed by members of the Nation of Islam, it's a little different but yeh I take your point. Didn't he say that his early racism was wrong though later on in the mid-60's before he was assasinated?

He started off as an ignorant prick then grew up and finally became a good civil rights leader, then was killed.

From what I know that sounds right.

Malcolm X said this months before he died,

"I realized racism isn't just a black and white problem. It's brought bloodbaths to about every nation on earth at one time or another. Brother, remember the time that white college girl came into the restaurant — the one who wanted to help the [Black] Muslims and the whites get together — and I told her there wasn't a ghost of a chance and she went away crying? Well, I've lived to regret that incident. In many parts of the African continent I saw white students helping black people. Something like this kills a lot of argument. I did many things as a [Black] Muslim that I'm sorry for now. I was a zombie then — like all [Black] Muslims — I was hypnotized, pointed in a certain direction and told to march. Well, I guess a man's entitled to make a fool of himself if he's ready to pay the cost. It cost me 12 years. That was a bad scene, brother. The sickness and madness of those days — I'm glad to be free of them."

Malcolm X did discover the error of his ways before he died, but he never really redeemed himself with actions, (he died before he had a chance). I would state it as, He started off as am ognorant prick then grew up and was killed before he had a chance to become a good civil rights leader.

He refered to whites as devils until 1964, the year before he died.

He was a leader of the Nation of Islam for over 10 years and left it for Orthodox Islam, so true, it wasn't complete his religious group that assassinated him.
