He was pwned by Martin Luther King. I don't particularly like him. I can understand where he's coming from, though.

He repented on his hatred for whites after going to Mecca and discovering the possibility for humans of different ethnicities to live peacefully. Consequently, Martin Luther King Jr. became radicalized during the latter part of the 60s after recognizing the problem was deeper than he originally thought. The two met eachother in the middle.

Yes, but he was assassinated only about 10 months after returning from Mecca, and a lot of that time (a few months) in Africa and France. Also much of his time back, he spent building up his new church. He did renounce his privious hatred for whites, but never really had the chance to show people that he had changed.

MLKjr radicalized? Are you refering to "bloody sunday" and the other marchs from Selma to Montgomery?

Very vaugely, he was Hitler for afircan americans, but never got to high enough power to do major damage. He was assassinated by member's of his own religion.
I would say that without him, the civil rights movement would not have accelerated like it did.

The civil rights movement was already building momentum before he came on the scene as doing anything positive for it. In his earlier days, he nothing more than pre-black panther party leader. His denouncedment of his past actions was probably the best thing he did for the movement, everything prior to that had a negative impact. Just like the Black Panthers had while Martin Luther King was trying to progress the civil rights.

I wasn't talking about his positive actions.

I was referring to the threat he posed as leader of the Black Panthers. Without that threat of violence and outrage, I don't think that the civil rights movement would have kicked off like it did.

He wasn't the leader of the Black Panther Party. The Black Panthers were established 18 months after Malcolm X's death.

Oh, I thought you were saying he was the leader of the party. My mistake.

I don't know much about the guy, but I know the basics. I know that he presented a threat of violence. And I know that MLK was a pacifist. I'm still convinced that the movement would never have taken off like it did without that threat of violence. I don't think MLK would have been as well received without Malcom X.

A slight threat of violence is sometimes benefitial. Like useing lighter fluid, if you keep pooring it on after it is no longer needed, it begins to cause problems for your BBQ.

Once congress was hearing MLK, and MLK was able to speak directly to the president and many people of congress were getting involved, the need for violence is no more.

As a congressman that is open to something new, but not yet convinced of it, MLK and other congressmen might be able to convince you, but if you turn on the 10 o' clock news and find that 3 police and 2 civilians were killed by the BPP in your home state, that undoes everything that MLK has done to convince you.

But, in all fairness.

MLK did say in a letter to Malcolm's wife after his death, "While we did not always see eye to eye on methods to solve the race problem, I always had a deep affection for Malcolm and felt that he had a great ability to put his finger on the existence and the root of the problem. He was an eloquent spokesman for his point of view and no one can honestly doubt that Malcolm had a great concern for the problems we face as a race."
