The only reason the FBI should keep anyone's biometric information on file is if the person has been convicted of a major felony.
Unfortunately, they don't have to force us to give our prints up. They'll just "encourage" corporations to take fingerprints and iris scans, and provide benefits (read: tax breaks) to companies that give them this information. If an FBI agent tried to force me to give him my prints I'd be ready and willing to resist, either through civil disobedience or, if necessary, violence. But what can you do when every job above the Walmart cashier level requires fingerprints? Looks like another reason to move to Denmark. At least they aren't fascist yet.

Give the government an inch and it will take a mile (or, if you prefer, a couple of kilometers).

A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air. "Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. "I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up." The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation. "Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves." |

You could write a bill to use very restrictive language. Legally that would prevent using this on everyone.
However, I am extremely unimpressed with the goon squads simply setting up secret rooms at phone company main grid and routing in ALL phone calls and email communication without restriction. There is no oversight. Before anything more in this direction is approved oversight absolutely must be established. That probably means a concrete guarantee of FISA Court and Legislative Branch oversight and anything short of that would be an impeachable offense. |
