Default Radical Idea to get rid of Don't Ask Don't Tell

This just popped into my head. An almost definite way to repeal DADT would be for all gay troops currently serving or in the reserve to openly declare it to their commanding officier or whatever on the same day. This would mean that an estimated 65,000 troops would be sent home and the wars in iraq and afganistan mortally wounded. The senate would have no choice but to approve a bill demolishing dont as dont tell asap.

This is a radical way, but apparently, being radical is the only way to get things done these days.

Would you mind telling me why openly gay soldiers can't serve in the military? I mean the reasons behind it, not that there's a law against it.

I am pretty sure we already have a thread debating the issue of homosexuals in the military.

That is a brilliant idea.

Call their bluff. The service couldn't cope if that happened.

It's a ridiculous prejudice anyway. Gays openly serve in other armies with no more problems than any other section.

Everyone knows they do serve and that they always have done. Laws preventing gays from serving don't prevent them from doing so in any case.

Oh puh-leeze! There is more devilment going on in the military than the law would allow....I remember back in the 70's, I had a gay friend (who was obviously gay), who had just left a stint in the military...and was the "kept boy" of a officer, who lavished him with gifts and privileges. In light of all the scandals in Washington, homosexual and heterosexual, why would we be so naive as to believe that the very same things that go on in "the real world...the civilian world", doesn't happen in the military world? Tooth fairies and Santa Claus, notwithstanding.

Primarily because of homophobes who are not in the military, but there are still quite a few homophobes serving with command duties.

a much better way:

all gay people should stand up and say they refuse to fight for a country that will not allow them equal rights and that they should not be forced to register when they turn 18

want to see how fast the bigots say they are asking for special treatment and make it possible for those fags to enlist???
