Bwahahahahaha! Can anyone else here see the irony of Truth for a Change asking for actualy sources, links, quotes?!!! And how many real conservatives would run up a $150,000 bill for designer clothing?

Actually, I would probably not categorize Gov. Palin as either a neoconservative or a paleo-conservative. She may contain some elements of each; but predominantly, she is a social conservative and right-wing populist, in my opinion.

I don't see any paleo elements in her - in fact, she positively drips with disdain toward education and science. Ideas being elitist goes against paleo-conservatism, as does govt intrusion in private lives. The woman is a beauty queen bimbo - I truly hope that the extremists of the party decide to run her every 4 years because she is a hoot!

You need to have an understanding of the faction of the GOP Palin represents, the fundamentalist Christian right wing. That is different that traditional conservatives and neo conservatives. Up until now, Bush Republicans could not get elected or re elected without fundamentalist Christians. So they have been shamelessly pandering to them.
That strategy did not work this time around. Sarah Palin was an embarassment to the party. For McCain to win, he needed to win over the independents and cross over voters, and Palin alienated them. The GOP was also supported Palin initially as a woman, whom they wanted to declare was a feminist while forgetting feminists are overwhelmingly pro choice. They were going after the alienated Hillary supporters and it didn't work. What Republicans need to focus on is that enlisting the support of fundamentalist Christians with Sarah on the ticket did not work. They need to go back to the drawing board for 2112.
