Smith (R, incumbant) v. Merkley (D)

Right now, Merkley is up about 3.5 points (with still over 10% undecided).

While I may not like Smith that much, I have hated Merkley's tactics. Smith has worked with other Senators, like Obama and Kennedy, yet Merkley has continuely tried to link Smith as a Bush clone (they now flood the tv airways with ads that contain no sources and no facts). Smith has kept the debates on the issues for the most part. Promoting his own voting record, like when voted for s-chip (which wheather you agree with or not, it was against Bush), and he has attacked Merkley's voting record (with citation). Merkley attacks Smith for buying $1.2 million golf club set (which he did with his own money, and from an Oregon golf store).

It looks like it, Merkley and the democrats have done a hell of a job attacking him like there was no tomorrow (well, for Merkley, there isn't if he loses). Smith had approval ratings of as high as 58% (30% disapproval) in 2007, compare that to the approval of most of congress and it is damn good. However, the merkley attacks caused it to drop to a bottom of 35% (57% disapproval), all in the last few months.
