Default Election on a Tuesday - WTF?!

Why is the election on a Tuesday? Seems totally stupid to me. Why is it so & why isn't it moved to a weekend?

As for the day of the week chosen, Sunday was ruled out because it was the Sabbath. An election on Monday might require travel on Sunday, and so was also ruled out. Tuesday had no problem.
That is weak. An election on Tuesday is excellent if you want to eliminate the poorest voters from showing up. Bussing in to a polling station on their way to their second job... good luck.

Only in America (quite possibly literally!)

Early voting is at least possible in "some" states.

We have early voting. It lasts for two weeks.
In all, most voters do not vote.

We have local elections on the second Saturday in May.
Turnout is worse than the November election.

Since there were no buses when Tuesday was established as election day, your argument is dismissed out of hand.

Besides, most poor folks are too damned lazy to get off their backsides to even vote. Even then, they are just stupid sheeple who vote based on those little 10-second soundbites the media feeds them.

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

You have to have a compelling argument to change the system. As the system fosters low participation, which protects incumbency, change such as this would be unlikely short of revolution.

Improving democratic outcomes - I think that is a compelling argument.

Ah, so wealth correlates with intelligence. You have a slim definition of success if this is so.
