Washington - Congressional Democrats inched close to agreement Monday on the terms of a $700 billion rescue package to stabilize shaky financial markets, but continued to encounter White House resistance to key points. "The Bush administration has called on Congress to rubber-stamp its bailout legislation without serious debate or efforts to improve it. That will not happen," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

And in one stroke the democrats earn their paychecks. Had this been a republican controlled congress they would have lined up waiving their rubber stamps and asking where they should sign.

So while the democrats are stonewalled by the filibustering republicans in the Senate and the litany of veto threats from Bush, finally they make a difference...no more is Bush getting away with his crap.

What really gets me is once again Bush's solution is to give one person total power over a situations with no oversight from congress, and no leadership from the oval office. And not enough people are calling him on it.

This happened with Brownie, Rumsfeld, Paul Bremer, David Petraus.

It is pretty much like Bush says Hey your a pretty smart guy! you take care of it. With everything that goes on.

Now the solution is to make Paulson Finance czar. And hold him above the law.

I think this is a point not being made enough. Complete lack of leadership is bushes calling card.

When I was manager of a fast food joint that kind of "Delegating" Would have gotten me fired.

i am not a democrat, although in this instance i agree with you completely. no blank check, no bailout and no golden parachuts for all these execs who caused this problem with their greed and bad business sense in the first place

i do not have any stock so while the markets tanking is concerning, what is more concerning is the price of gas (when you can find it here) and food price increases. they are really putting a bite in lots of peoples budgets

bush is a moron who has ruined our economy, standing in the world and what used to be at least a decent reputation

Don't forget that this gives Bush plausible deniability, something his father invented.

Depends on how you define leadership. To Bush, this is leadership, to do something, anything, no matter how stupid and no matter how much ignorance it reflects. Bush runs this country like he uses a magic eight ball to make decisions.

Finally Congress is standing up to his moronic leadership...

Can you imagine how much worse this would get if the republicans still held the majority in Congress?
