Default Leave The Children Out Of It?

Media Matters - Hannity

McCain reportedly told a "joke" about Chelsea Clinton in 1998, saying: "Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno."
McCain telling this atrocious joke is verified here: Salon Newsreal | A joke too bad to print?
The Raw Story | White House warns: Don't 'exploit' Palin daughter's pregnancy

The White House warned the media on Tuesday not to "exploit" the pregnancy of Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin's teenage daughter Bristol, calling it a "private family matter."
A warning that should be taken seriously since the last person in the media to make fun of the Bush twins ended up dead after receiving an Anthrax letter....

Are all children off limits or are only the republican children off limits? Barney Frank also weighs in pointing out the hypocrisy of the republicans:
PageOneQ | Barney Frank: Sarah Palin's family life is fair game

WASHINGTON - Rep. Barney Frank is among the first Democrats to publicly say Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s family background, including the pregnancy of her unwed teenage daughter, should be fair game for campaign discussion.

"They’re the ones that made an issue of her family," Frank, D-Mass., said Tuesday in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

Republicans stressed Palin’s conservative family values in announcing her selection as John McCain’s running mate on Friday. Frank says the recent disclosure about her daughter blunts conservative claims that liberalism harms family life.
So are the republicans trying to eat their cake and have it too? What I see is that every time the republicans claim the moral high ground it's based on quicksand.

Oh clueless one, there hasn't been a democrat in the White House for the last eight years...no one for McCain to be uncouth about.

The actions of a candidate’s children are a direct reflection on the parents who wish to be candidates. Children are a legitimate target whenever they illustrate the parents’ shortcomings. For Sarah Palin to pass herself off as a paragon of conservative family values when she cannot keep her unmarried 17 year old from getting pregnant is highly disingenuous on her part.

One of the "family values" attacks on Hillary Clinton was that she had abandoned her family duties for public office. Well, as a far as I can tell Chelsea Clinton turned out to be a near perfect child while the Bush twins and Palin's daughter couldn't keep their legs crossed for five minutes.

Of course that is when it is a Republican whose children are being gored.

When it was Gore's son who was drunk and driving recklessly.. it was a different story.. and when Joe Kennedy appears at Capital Hill at 3 am in the morning Saying that he came for a vote.. that is also off limits..

But when it comes to Democrats.. it is different.. The double standard continues.

I keep hearing the family is off limits. But at the same time, Republicans want to promote the 17-year old as a poster child for their anti-abortion agenda. So, why when people bring up family values, they all of the sudden say "This is a family matter that should not be discussed"?

I agree with Obama on this one: the families are off limits.

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

....but when it is Gore's son was arrested in 2000 for reckless driving under the influence.. we were told that Children were off limits.

The double standard is quite clear.. and the leftist bias of the media is frightening.
