Default Gustav and McCain - a happy coincedence

Is there anything stupider or more self centered than entering a disaster area as a presidential candidate in order to use it for a backdrop for a political speech?!

McCain may deliver convention speech from disaster zone.
Politico reports that the impending landfall of Hurricane Gustav has forced Republicans to scramble their convention plans. President Bush may not attend at all, and John McCain may deliver his acceptance speech from the hurricane-stricken areas:

McCain was scheduled to deliver his acceptance speech Thursday but now may do so from the devastation zone if the storm hits the U.S. coast with the ferocity feared by forecasters.

“It just wouldn’t be appropriate to have a festive occasion while a near-tragedy or a terrible challenge is presented in the form of a natural disaster,” McCain said in a taped interview for Fox News Sunday.

UpdateYglesias writes:
I know that if I lived in an area that was trying to prepare / evacuate in advance of a major national disaster, what I’d really want would be for a presidential candidate to swing by for a campaign appearance, distracting local political officials and drawing down resources of the local public safety agencies. After all, it’ll look good on camera to be engaged with the problem!

Desperate people do desperate things. At this point I'd put nothing past these pathetic liars, and I mean anything.

Well, the Obama camp is taking a different tactic - he's staying away to avoid siphoning off needed attention. But he is taking action - doing several radio and tv spots pushing the evacuation and:

Obama today said he called upon on his network of volunteers and donors to mobilize to help citizens of the Gulf Coast.

“Since we’ve got a network of volunteers, donors all across the country is to try to coordinate with officials to figure out what will be most useful if we can get volunteers, if we can get donations where they can be directed,” he told reporters. “We probably won’t know entirely who needs the most help and what is the best way to do it without getting in people’s way, until we actually see what happens over the next 48 hours.”

By early afternoon, a blog post on the Obama-Biden website told supporters how they could help.

Yeah, when I read about McCain wanting to rush right down to give his acceptance speech atop all the expected devastation, I thought it's kinda appropriate since bush has devastated this country. The reality is all the extra planning 'n logistics for a presidential candidate to come into the scene just shows us McCain can't think past the nose on his face.

The Clinton News Network praying for Rain? It would help Hillary Most.

She is still running.. Just think.. if something happened to Obama (and certainly 'things' have happened to Clinton associates.. Who would be selected to take his place?

Maybe Obama will be in the 57th state when he finds out? LOL

Okay Truth, sit up tall in the bed, look across the room from you, right next to the mounted TV there should be a calendar, look at the numbers, the BIG ones are todays' date- 31 AUGUST and it is the year 2008. Obama got the nomination for the Dems and McCain is gonna get the nomination for the Repigs.

The video was about Christian conservatives and how Gawd answered their prayers, now you lay back down, say your prayers 'n maybe Gawd will bless you with another day tomorrow.
Night, night, Truth. akiss.gif

I don't think he should go down there and do that, but on the other hand, if he does nothing then he'll get criticized for that too, so what difference does it make?

No - I would really prefer there be no hurricanes. But I also wouldn't vote for someone so self centered they rush to use a hurricane as a backdrop - siphoning off aid from disaster victims.

Oh, and conservatives are so amazingly stupid they are completely unable to even recognize pain and suffering. They have no morals, no empathy and no brains - they are craven liars who love to torture - that is how the game is played, right?
