I remember an excellent Chris Mathews interview with Robin Williams at the time that "Man of the Year" was being released. That is a really funny movie about a voting machine breakdown and somehow a comedian was elected president. In the interview Robin spoke at great length about the negative influence of money in our elections.

That is why Obama has been so amazing. He has set a new record for small donations from the grass roots as a source and non rich, individual contributors.

The best example of the federal government being sold out wholesale to corporate donors have been by a wide margin the Bush administration. The military industrial complex corporations, the corporate contractors in Iraq and the oil corporations bankrolled Bush into office twice. It is no random accident that McCain has gone after the same contributors offering to increase the Ddefense Department - Pentagon funding, stay in Iraq as long as it takes to "get the job done" (whatever that looks like), and now the flip flop on offshore oil drilliing. You can tell by McCain's luncheon, dinner schedule who he is going after.

Since Bush and McCain have reversed previous policies the price of crude has dropped 25%. Why would the oil industry reward the McCain camp for that?
