Annie was being sarcastic (as usual).

Forget the cartoon of a taxpayer having money removed from his wallet by the government to put in someone else's pocket. Most of that money is being borrowed from countries like China and Saudi Arabia.

The guy that wrote the e-mail reminds me of alot of traditional conservative Republicans. While I am for small government and disciplined spending, there are racist overtones to what he is saying (but not burning crosses in someone's front yard while dressed in bedsheets racism). He wants to focus on New Orleans reconstruction and breaks it down to how much per person that is equal to. But the fact is that money is going to corporations like Halliburton. They rake in profits and over fist while hiring illegal immigrants a minimum wage. New Orleans is dwarked by the bloated Pentagon budget. In 2001, CBS published a story about a missing $1.3 trillion at the Pentagon. Rumsfeld has a press conference and basically said they had no way to account for it - oopsie.

If you are going to be concerned about disciplines spending, there should be no sacred cows that escape scrutiny. The Pentagon richly deserves getting scrutinied and the people not doing the accounting need to get fired.

" In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.
" - President Dwight Eisenhower, January 16th, 1961
