going to a rally is not the same as being a participant. The rule is commonly excepted to mean they cannot organize or work for a campaign. But not allowing them assemble where they please is a direct violation of their rights.
It has been a violation of US Federal law since 1936.. Not outdated or a narrow interpretation of the facts.

Federal employees are barred from participation in campaigns... They are not allowed to assemble to organize or work for a campaign... and that is what they were told.

You really are a McCain fan - I wouldn't have thought of him as the messiah, but the state dept appears to!

I think the same law should apply to all candidates - should have known you're a Barr fan.

Here's the Hatch Act as it applies to federal employees: Hatch Act for Federal Employees

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

.. Maybe we should apply the laws of treason to Murtha, Pelosi, Rockefeller and Durbin?

Maybe we should apply all the laws of minimum Wage to the companies that Pelosi excluded.. e.g., the ones that her family owns.

Maybe we should apply the laws regarding birth requirements to Obama.... the paper that he ascribes to be his birth certificate from Hawaii is a forgery... but then I think that the Clinton's will see to that one at the convention.

Great, and we can apply it to the entire republican party while we're at it.

Treason:

So what is treason? Maybe you should ask one of the seriously injured Iraq War vets that were in those back wards of Walter Reed living in squalor all because some idiot contracted out the work to a private company that was obviously cutting corners and expenses.

These are vets missing arms, legs, that are blind, etc...

The bedpan of treason award needs to be dumped on Bush's head.
