Yes, I guess anyone who tried to stop the war, protest the war or save the lives of his fellow soldiers, by other means then killing the enenmy, should be held in contempt.

Nice call, ArmChair General.

There is one more difference, when Kerry gave testimony before congress pleading for help in locating MIA in Vietnam, McCain shut him down.
Their Voice: POW/MIA Families Tell Their Stories

According to Mrs.Carol Hrdlicka, when POW/MIA family members confronted Sen. John McCain in the halls of Congress after the conclusion of the Committee’s Report, he shoved the wheelchair of handicapped POW mother Jane Gaylord out of his way knocking it into her niece who was behind the chair attending to her aunt and she was pushed up against a wall. Subsequently Mrs. Gaylord filed a complaint for assault against the Senator but the matter was squelched by the powers that be. As Senator McCain attempted to jump on an elevator to make a quick escape from the POW/MIA family members gathered, he shouted at Mrs. Hrdlicka, “You don’t know what I’ve been through”(indicating he was a former POW and inferring Mrs. Hrdlicka had no comparable experience or appreciation of his great suffering and sacrifice). As the door to the elevator began to close around the cowering Senator who was making good his get-a-way, Mrs. Hrdlicka raised a large photo of her POW husband Col. David Hrdlicka and thrust it at the elevator doors to show the Senator that she did indeed share in the suffering of POWs and family members and shouted that she had clear proof her husband David was still alive in captivity. Unfortunately, Mrs. Hrdlicka’s cries and pleas for help from government officials bent on closing the chapter on POWs fell on deaf ears and blackened hearts!“
That's just a taste of the real McCain. Here's another...

Colonel Hopper and the True John McCain

Let's just say Vietnam couldn't have a better friend in Washington DC...some friggin hero.

John McCain blocks investigation of missing POW's and MIA's to save his political career. | polidics.com

John McCain has stood in the way of many a family, loved one and groups from getting our MIA’s and POW’s back. Even though they have more enough proof that there were over a 100 POW’s that were still being held and sent to other country’s. These groups and families point out that John McCain himself is stopping them from getting our fellow countrymen home.

Why?

Fellow POW’s are sure the reason is he was a coward and a traitor as a POW in Viet Nam and it would ruin his political career if this were ever to find its way to the main stream media. They have put together eye witness accounts that describe McCain’s traitorous actions during his time as a prisoner in Viet Nam by his fellow prisoners. Former Senators, Governors and political records flat out nail John McCain as a scared little man on the run from a history of lies and deceit.
There's your hero...

McCain: I 'Didn't Love America' Until Held Prisoner (VIDEO) - Politics on The Huffington Post

Republicans have hammered Michelle Obama for her remarks in February that she was proud of America "for the first time in my adult life." Tonight, however, Dan Abrams showed footage he uncovered of a Fox News interview with John McCain on March 13, 2008, in which McCain said, "I didn't really love America until I was deprived of her company."
I think McCain was referring to the time he spent as a collaborator for the Vietnamese...

The Raw Story | John McCain's Viet Cong captor speaks

Presidential Candidate John McCain's Viet Cong captor has broken his silence in a new story published by the BBC.

Tran Trong Duyet, whom BBC attributes as a retiree and ballroom dancing enthusiast, says the aging Republican is 'lying' about his time in the infamous "Hanoi Hilton" during the Vietnam War.
Well this should be easy to verify.
POWs Discuss Experience

RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- On a good day, there were three cups of water to take a bath. On a good day, there was food. On a good day, the tapping sounds, the flapping towels, the scraping rakes and swishing brooms they used for communication made sense and were understood.

On the bad days, the guards beat them. They were locked in rusted iron stockades which contorted them into unnatural positions. The pressure to sell out was continuous and unrelenting. Some would sit in solitary confinement, starving and rotting. Many died. Those who followed the Code of Conduct, those with courage, those who had the will to uphold the chain of command, watched as those who could not -- who would not -- walked away and were released from the camps.
Confirmed, those that collaborated were given early release. Wait, wasn't McCain offered early release?
