Now, getting back to the original topic...

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

It all depends on his capacities after surgery and how long of a period he will need for recovery. His state needs someone working at full capacity, and this needs to be an open discussion by now, whether we are talking about an interim person or a replacement. At 76 years old, I would say he needs to retire.

why should kennedy have to resign? if he can do his job, he should be allowed to. what if you got sick and your boss said you had to retire? sen. byrd is even older (and in the hospital). no reason for them to resign. and no reason for mccain not to be president due to age.

if they are fit to do the job they shouldnt be asked to resign

Kennedy has always been mediocre and now, based on Bush's qualifications, he's ready to be president.

So we are in agreement that McCain is fit for duty as well then right? I have see more than a few people mention that McCain is to old and has the chance of skin cancer coming back.

I really think he should step down and be with his family. He gave it a good run but I think it may be time for him to step down.
