Default Blacks Still Discriminated Against: Affirmative Action Needed

This country continues to show that affirmative action is still needed, and maybe it should be beefed up to force change. Obama is the man to do that for America and give every American the opportunity to work. Hopefully congress will fill with democrats who will bring change.

67% of black Americans say blacks are “almost always” or “frequently” discriminated against when applying for a job. 36% of Hispanics and 20% of whites agree. Source: Pew Research Center

For centuries we had affirmative action - for white males - without a whimper about it. It was only when women and minorities started making progress that the complaints started.[/sarcasm]

The color of a persons skin isn't what causes discrimination. What causes discrimination is the lack of education and the inability of some minorities to assimilate themselves into the American business culture. To make the big bucks, you have to walk the walk, and talk the talk.

Bill Cosby has been saying the exact same things to all black audiences for years, so I don't want to hear anyone insinuate that my comments are in any way "racist".

Affirmative action has run it's course, and it's time for "ability" to be the deciding factor when hiring someone.

It's a same to see people wanting to work denied postions by corporations based on health, age, color, etc. When Welfare to work programs began, employors refused to hire them, so many still wait for the opportunity to become productive. There should be a law against that as well.

The reason skin color does matter is in the numbers by the race in that statement. There is a reason 67% black feel discriminated against, while only a handful of hispanics or white agree. Obviously, they have not had the experience of being denied because of skin color.

Oh, puh-leeze! I've had to deal with sex discrimination in the workplace. I could write a whole freekin essay about how it manifests itself, inequity in workload, in job assignments, pay raises, promotions, what have you. I saw highly qualified women get passed over for promotion in favor of mediocre men.

I finally quit working for that organization, and finally found myself working in a place where my gender was no hindrance, and where I was able to advance as far as my talents would take me.

Discrimination is still alive and well.

Discrimination is an ugly reality that

Just because two of three blacks say they are discriminated against, doesn't answer the question of "why" they are discriminated against. The assumption is it's because of the color of their skin, and although that probably plays a part in it on rare occasions, my contention is that it has to do with the fact that many African-Americans haven't assimilated themselves into the American business culture.

You really need to listen to the speeches Bill Cosby has given to African-American audiences, to understand where I'm coming from here.

If I had Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton telling me that for the last 40 years I might believe it too.

Affirmative action is nothing more than institutionalized racism and an antiquated system that does not achieve its intentioned goal. Equality is not achieved by giving someone a job simply because they are a minority race. Someone is still being discriminated against. All affirmative action does today is create animosity and resentment between races.

The U.S. has come a long, long way from the Civil Rights days. It's time to start accepting responsibility for one's self and stop blaming your shortcomings on others.
