Look, if you guys want to move this, I don't care. I just find it odd that an article about public policy and the special interest group that has too much power over that policy isn't considered political. - R |

I think it's political. MADD is a political pressure group and like most pressure groups, after it achieves its initial aim it finds reasons to keep existing and becomes more and more extreme. They need to be slapped down and they need to be slapped down politically.
DUI isn't socially acceptable any longer, that point has already been made. That's a good thing. I remember when people used to boast about how drunk they were but they still got home. You don't hear that now, at a party such a claim would result in silence and cold looks rather than the hilarious laughter of twenty years or so ago. I remember in one of our states that the government ran a big media campaign with the tag line, "If you drink and drive, you're a bloody idiot!" In a pub in an inner city district in one state someone had scrawled underneath, "but if you get home, you're a legend!" That was hilarious at the time, now it wouldn't get a run. RSD makes a good point. That act by the cops was disgusting. But that's what happens when pressure groups get power beyond their numbers, they start to take over. Slap them down. |

It is definately political. MADD is a prohibitionist group that gives money to politicians. They are just as evil as PNAC.
