I think that the first pastor speaking is Otis Moss III, Rev. Wright's replacement. It's nice to see the COMPLETE sermon posted so you can take everything that is being said in context. I see that this service has the same vibe as it did pre-Moss. Is this common for Cristian churches, or is this an exception? I only ask this because I have not been to a Christian service is decades.

It's hard to believe that it would only be at this church. I guess it's not a specific Christian church thing then. I am sure that others may have the same sentiments that these Pastors preach. I've just never personally experienced a service like what I've seen at Trinity. Now that we can see the COMPLETE sermon, then it has much more impact for me. Listening to it is much different than seeing it.

No, if Trinity is tax exempt, it is "not" permissible to indulge in politics. Indulging in politics is not illegal unless you proclaim exempt status. Almost all churches pay no taxes and refrain from influencing congregations politically.

Very good question. Maybe by proclaiming that the US government planted AIDS in the community may be one example for starters (paraphrasing). That seems like it's "indulging in politics", since it's referring to our government and "AIDS" has been politcized. There are more I'd imagine...
I'll compile my list and post it when I return from choir practice tonight (if you know what I mean) ![]() |

Here's a section from a sermon that was given at the Trinity United Church of Christ that I consider "Indulging in politics". The remainder of the sermon is linked:
We took this country, by terror, away from the Sioux, the Apache, the Arrowak (phonetic) the Comanche, the Arapajo, the Navajo. Terrorism--we took Africans from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear. Terrorism. We bombed Grenada and killed innocent civilians -- babies, non-military personnel. We bombed the black civilian community of Panama with Stealth Bombers and killed unarmed teenagers, and toddlers, pregnant mothers and hard working father. [fullest voice] We bombed Khadafi, his home and killed his child. Blessed be they who bash your children's head agains the rocks.Whether what is being said is accurate, that is not the point. It is the fact that he is "indulging in politics", being that the political message was being heard and absorbed by the church's congregation. |
