This thread to discuss all the "State Police" actions being used against American citizens. Some people here think that is BS, or if it doesn't affect me personally, why should I care.

This thread is spawned by the US Dept. of Commerce I received susposedly sent as the "2008 Census Dress Rehearsal," in disguise and launches off into my private matters and who lives here, their exact birth dates, race, etc.

What is appalling is a big notice stating "YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUIRED BY LAW," in a threatening manner, and going further into the letter it states if I do not respond as ordered by the law, the Federal Government will send out their Jack Booted thugs to my doorstep and extract the information under duress.

They give you all that BS that they won't release your private information, but we already know they made that lie up before and then sold our information to corporations.

That is what spawned this thread, and I don't mind expanding it to include related state police actions, or what I call the federal or state writing laws and enforcing them with tyrants to do their bidding.

I got the same thing. It went into the trash. IIRC they called it a "survey." They have no authority to force me to give them the information.

If you think that's intrusive, you should have seen the questionnaire I had to fill out for the state Motor Vehicle Administration a few years back when I had a medical problem that could have potentially affected my ability to drive. I had to fill out the multi-page questionnaire in order to keep my driver's license, and there were questions about family history (now why did they need to know if anyone in my family have cancer or AIDS?), personal smoking, drinking and drug habits, and questions such as "Have you ever wanted to kill someone?"

I filled out the questionnaire and was really ticked off about it, so I wrote the state governor and complained. I doubt that anything came of my complaint.

It was such an invasion of privacy, above and beyond what they needed to know to assess my fitness to drive (IMO).

BTW - I was allowed to keep driving.
