You’d Look Nice as a Drawstring Lamp...

The Freedom Files

Hello Freedomphiles! You know, when my grandfather died, I considered re-creating his flapper girl tattoo in memory of him. I never did, but occassionally regret my decision. If I had known this option was available, I'd have puked out my lower intestine and done the same thing I ended up doing in the first place:

  • When Carl Whittaker's father was dying of cancer in 1999, he made an unusual request: he asked that his tattoos (acquired after he learned that he had terminal cancer) be removed from his body and saved. When his father died, Carl followed his father's request: he asked a taxidermist to remove his father's tattoos so that they could be preserved by a hide-tanning company.

"I thought it was a bit on the wild side myself," Whittaker told reporters in Australia. "But that's what he wanted, and I had a lot of respect for the man, so I did it. I suppose it preserves his memory."

When the skin was tanned, Whittaker took a final step in their preservation: the four tattoos are now framed and hanging in his dining room. The tattoos, removed from his father's back and arm, include a large eagle battling a snake.

"You've got your fors and against, and a lot of people are quite horrified by it all - they look and say 'Oh my God,'" he continued. "The people that know me just know it was out of respect for my old man, because he was my best mate."

One day Whittaker plans to give the framed tattoos to his daughter as a memorial to her grandfather.

"Gee, thanks, Dad. I always wanted a genuine tom-tom made outta grandpa. This isn't twisted or disgusting at all."

Thanks to savaged for the tip. Look below for a clue on the title.

Well, remember that it wasn't just the son that decided to do this, it was the father's request to have this done. There is nothing disgusting about the son to honor his father's request. If anything it is something that is disgusting about the father.

At first, based on the title and the picture, I thought they had the dead guy stuffed.

I knew this was going to be an Australian story from the first few lines. My type of politically incorrect wild people.

What's that song, "Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport"

Perfect for this.

Noun, Kangaroo: "kanggu'roo" Any of several herbivorous leaping marsupials of Australia and New
Guinea having large hind legs and a long thick tail.
Will that work?
Now I have 3 tatoo's that are one of a kind. 2 hand made and the first in 1996 by an older tatoo artist in Petersburg, VA. while going thru Parachute Rigging School there. I asked for parachute wings and had the stanndard changed completely so it to is one of a kind. Yet I don't think I would want them removed and what ever done once I am gone. I'm taking mine with me. lol

But as OE pointed out the father wishes were carried out. A son/daughter should honor his fathers last wish if it is legal in my view!

I'm suspicious by nature. Certain parts of the anatomy get nicknames.

I caught that, that is why I didn't respond to it. I could only dig a hole that way.
