If Obama picks Sen. Jim Webb as VP, I'll seriously consider voting for Obama.

I guess on the issue of capitalism, I line up well with Ron Paul - abolish the fed, go back to the gold standard, seriously considering alternatives to the income tax. Where I don't line up with this specific view of capitalism is what we are experiencing is exactly what Adam Smith warned us about, "merchant cartels."

No one is really doing stereotypical monopolies anymore, but we are seeing near monopolies and we are seeing a Bush Republican selling the federal government out to specific billionaire corporate cartels - such as the pharmaceutical companies and the medicare drug benefits or the Iraq war and the military industrial complex raking in profits hand over fist.

And I'll use the big nasty "R" word twice now as directly related to two of our critical issues. The loan industry needs regulation to prevent the excesses we have just seen leading to the housing bubble bursting. My only concern in saying that is that what is likely to happen will look like the FDA with industry cronies hired for the regulatory agency. Raph Nader predicted this was going to happen while Alan Greenspan was still around.

Then speculation in oil on the stock market needs to be eliminated. The whole process of buying oil at a low price, driving up the price by increasing demand, and then selling at a high price is exploiting the American public and economy and driving inflation higher. This is especially the case in the heat of competition when a stock broker gets an inside tip or there is some other jump start that will drive prices up fast - such as Nigeria Oil fields being shut down by a civil war or Iran shutting down the tanker lanes in the Persian Gulf.

This is what I think will happen. Republicans will be blamed because they created a mess that cannot be repaired. My biggest concern is that the most vocal Obama supporters will not call him on mistakes if they are made. This will be more detrimental to our country than any thing else.

But I would like to hear everyone's take on what will happen, should happen if Obama fails to deliver if elected.
As long as people keep voting Democrats and Republicans into office, there won't be any real change. They're two sides of the same coin.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

Well, McCain does, anyway. That damned carpetbagger Hillary Clinton has only completed one full term in the Senate.

That about as ridiculous a statement as saying someone was qualified to be a surgeon because that person watched his (or her) spouse doing surgeries.

I'm not saying that she is "qualified" because of that, but that that experiense of seeing the inside for 8 years will make her less likely to choke (not saying she'll do better, only saying that she'll be less likely to choke).

If given the choice for surgeon between person A and B. Person A has never done a sergeory, never gone to school on it, and never seen the inside of a real human body. And person B has also never gone to school or done it, but she watch her husband do it for 8 years and was present with him in the opporating room many many times over that 8 years. Both will likely fail and kill you, but person B has the best chance of doing it right.

Obama has a lot of good choices for VP.

Senator Jim Webb
Governor Bill Richardson
Senator John Edwards

Senator Hillary Clinton, don't think this will happen though.

Anyone have any good female VP candidates other then Hillary?
