Default Newsweek Covers For Obama on Hamas

Incredible! Obama is supported by Hamas. Indeed, he advocates negotiating with terrorists. One of his own advisers has now quit because of an embarrassing relationship with Hamas.

Quote:
Newsweek Covers For Obama on Hamas

Really, if Newsweek is going to write,

At the time of the Pennsylvania primary, the McCain campaign sent out a letter suggesting that Obama was the candidate of Hamas, the Palestinian terrorist group ("Barack Obama's foreign policy plans have even won him praise from Hamas leaders," read the letter). McCain, by contrast, portrayed himself as "Hamas's worst nightmare." (In fact, Obama and McCain have the same position on Hamas —no talks, no recognition, no outreach.) Last week Obama told CNN: "This is offensive. And I think it's disappointing because John McCain always says, 'Well, I'm not going to run that kind of politics' … For him to toss out comments like that, I think, is an example of him losing his bearings as he pursues this nomination."

...you would think their readers might deserve to know what prompted McCain's campaign to suggest that Obama is the candidate of Hamas, i.e., top Hamas political adviser Ahmed Yousef saying the terrorist group supports Obama’s foreign-policy vision and hopes he wins:

“We don’t mind–actually we like Mr. Obama. We hope he will (win) the election and I do believe he is like John Kennedy, great man with great principle, and he has a vision to change America to make it in a position to lead the world community but not with domination and arrogance,” Yousef said in response to a question about the group’s willingness to meet with either of the Democratic presidential candidates.

I mean, seriously, one of his advisers, Rob Malley, was holding meetings with Hamas, and Obama's promised to hold unconditional face-to-face presidential summits with the guy who's funding and encouraging Hamas.

The leader of Hamas says he has been urged by Iran to continue their stand against Israel, as he announced that Iran will fund his party as western blockades against his government continue.

"We still look forward to get support [from Iran] to break the political and economic sanctions," Khaled Meshaal said on Tuesday during a visit to Iran.

Iran is known to have given $120 million to Hamas since it took office following its victory in the Palestinian legislative elections.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president has urged visiting Meshaal on Tuesday to keep fighting Israel, state television said.

"The [Palestinian] government should use its brave and pious forces to continue resistance against the Zionist regime [Israel]", Ahmadinejad told Mashaal at the start of his two-day visit to Iran.

Obama contends a face-to-face summit with the guy on the left is long overdue; a face-to-face summit with the guy on the right is crazy talk.

How seriously are we expected to take a far right wing link? Because of the source, I'm suspicious that the truth has been embroidered in places.

That didn't take long. Within a minute of posting this thread the left have already dismissed the source out of hand because they can't counter the facts presented in the story.

No, "the left" dismissed the source because of its history of bias and unreliability.

If you're serious about discussing this, perhaps you can give us a source that doesn't have the same axe to grind that NR is known to have.

The National Review is a historically reliable source. If you disagree with the content of the article then counter my OP with a source and discussion.

Oh, really? They may not be as scummy as Drudge, but they have a clear right wing bias (which you perhaps are blind to).

National Review is a right wing dishonest hack site.

Hamas was democratically elected. Why should our leaders refuse to have dialogue?

Why are right wingers more inclined to send bombs than diplomats? Is it a family value to kill instead of compromise?

I approve of Obama being willing to have talks with Hamas. Is there any other option for resolving the Palestinian situation???

So Hamas approves of Obama, so that is a link between Hamas and Obama? Good grief! Guilt by association BS all over again. So lets turn this rationale around. KKK members voted for Bush therefore Bush is a racist.

And if an article here was posted from MoveOn.com you would be the first one raising the issue of source credibility.

Two words regarding the chances of success of negotiating with Hamas. Jimmy Carter.

It's not a link but when the terrorists advocate in favor of his candidacy it raises the question of do they like him because he shares their values and can be manipulated to sympathize with their cause.
