Default McCain Makes the Case for Staying in Iraq

Quote:
In a 27-minute address at the National World War I Museum here in Kansas City, McCain laid out his most detailed argument for continuing the Iraq occupation in several months. Although he emphasized that he was eager to minimize America's presence there, saying, "Our goal is an Iraq that no longer needs American troops," he argued the U.S. must stay for now in order to capitalize on the military gains it has made over the past year.

"The job of bringing security to Iraq is not finished," the senator said at the event, hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars. "But there is no doubt about the basic reality in Iraq: We are no longer staring into the abyss of defeat, and we can now look ahead to the genuine prospect of success. ... The fact is, we now have a great opportunity, not only to bring stability and freedom to Iraq, but to make Iraq a pillar of our future strategy for the entire region of the greater Middle East."

Although McCain has planned a series of events in the coming weeks to spotlight the economy, today's speech highlights the extent to which he still sees his political fortunes tied to the war in Iraq. Rather than dwelling on the recent spike in violence there, he pointed to the fact that sectarian violence has declined there since the surge began. Conceding that "four years of a badly conceived military strategy had brought us almost to the point of no return" and that "much more needs to be done" in terms of political progress, McCain said Democratic Sens. Barack Obama (Ill.) and Hillary Clinton (N.Y.) and their colleagues were pushing for "a hasty withdrawal from Iraq" that could destabilize the Middle East. That line, along with his comments, "We must put the nation's interests above our own ambitions" and "I do not believe anyone should make promises they cannot keep if elected," drew sustained applause from the friendly audience of nearly 200.

"Some would withdraw regardless of the consequences. Others say that we can withdraw now and then return if trouble starts again. What they are really proposing, if they mean what they say, is a policy of withdraw and re-invade," he said. "I can hardly imagine a more imprudent and dangerous course."

Instead, he said, the United States is "within reach" of its ultimate goal: "the establishment of a generally peaceful, stable, prosperous, democratic state that poses no threat to its neighbors and contributes to the defeat of terrorists."

When will these people wake up. We are no closer to safe secure Iraq then we were 5 years ago.

How long do we have to buy this its only another year before they finally treat us like liberators.

When will this country wake up from the dream that Iraq is anything like Japan or Germany.

Sounds like stay the course to me and stay the course has accomplished nothing.

Is it because John McCain Supports Radical Muslims?

Quote:

"If the media are on the lookout for gaffes by the presidential campaigns, they missed a big one on Wednesday, when Cindy McCain met with Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci in Kosovo's capital Pristina, while her husband was giving a major foreign policy speech calling for "new foundations for a stable and enduring peace." Kosovo's declaration of independence, which McCain accepts and was implicitly recognized by Cindy McCain's visit to Pristina, is a major threat to global peace and security. It could spark a U.S. war with Russia.
It may be asking too much, however, for the media to cover a gaffe like this. The Kosovo policy is a bipartisan blunder. For the liberal media, Iraq, where McCain differs with Hillary and Obama about the length of stay of the U.S. military, seems to be the only foreign policy issue worth talking about. But the U.S. faces other major problems.
We need to recall that the war against the former Yugoslavia was depicted by the liberal media as a worthwhile humanitarian intervention. But it was waged on the basis of Clinton Administration lies of a "genocide" being waged against Albanian Muslims in Kosovo, a province of Serbia. In fact, the Clinton Administration's NATO war against Yugoslavia probably cost more lives than were lost in the civil war in Kosovo. Serbian troops were forced to withdraw in exchange for an international guarantee that Serbia would retain sovereignty over Kosovo but the province would get substantial autonomy. The U.S. agreed to that, but that agreement was violated when the Bush Administration, with backing from McCain and Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, recently recognized Kosovo's declaration of independence from Serbia.

McCAIN AND THE KLA CONNECTION

Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., speaks to a pro Kosovo, pro McCain, rally across the street from his New York City hotel Friday morning, Feb. 11, 2000. George W. Bush has been taken out to the woodshed by the liberals for appearing on the stage at Bob Jones University – in this day and age, to even appear on a platform provided by a politically incorrect group or institution is enough to condemn a candidate to perdition. And the McCain campaign was quick to capitalize on it. But why isn't McCain subjected to the same scrutiny? Please direct your attention to the photo below: the caption informs us that McCain is speaking at "a pro-Kosovo, pro-McCain rally across the street from his New York City hotel Friday morning, Feb. 11, 2000.

McCain is in New York for the day to attend fundraisers and to talk to the press before returning to South Carolina Friday night." But who is the man on the right, with the colorful KLA scarf and his big mouth wide open? The caption-writer is mute on this point, but to anyone who knows anything about New York's ethnic politics, the face is all-too-familiar: it is none other than former Republican Congressman Joe DioGuardi, now the loquacious leader of the Albanian-American Civic League (AACL) – a group that not only actively represents the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) in America, but whose leader has become a spokesman for the most radical fringe elements of the KLA.

Only the Iraqis can solve their problems, not us.

And if I recall it's not like McCain could tell the difference between Sunni and Shi'a al-Qaeda either.

Maybe by installing another dictator to lay down the law, we might assist them. With the centuries-old hatred these people have for each other, I don't see any other practical way to stabilize Iraq.

And why do we insist on helping them going into our sixth year? Could it be the (bleeping) OIL?

What ever it is it isn't worth the lose we face in Afghanistan and in Iraq all total.
But we wore our streanth in Afgan. Now it will cost extra lives and money. But at least the elite can't grab as much as they earn in Iraq.

And I thought that that was what Gen. Pertreus, did at the show hearings. Only Mike Weir is telling it like it is. And he admits we need to stay at least 3-4 more years.

WE CAN'T..... Period!!!!!!!!!!!
