CLINTON, Iowa – Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama this afternoon called for an immediate start to the withdrawal of all U.S. combat forces from Iraq -- with a goal of full removal by the end of 2008 -- as he suggested the nation has lost its way because of the war. "We're not going to be truly united and resolute as Americans until we can stop holding our breath, until we can come together to reclaim our foreign policy and our politics and end this war that has cost us too much," he said. Obama's plan, outlined before an audience of about 500 at Ashford University, calls for the complete pullout of troops by the end of next year by bringing home one or two brigades each month. "Let me be clear: There is no military solution in Iraq. There never was," he said. "'The best way to protect our security and to pressure Iraq's leaders to resolve their civil war is to immediately begin to remove our combat troops. Not in six months or one year – now." Of course, Obama has changed his tune: "...no one is asking for a precipitous with drawl." As of yesterday. |

My thoughts exactly. |

And what year was the article published?
And all the candidates currently are talking about a phased withdrawal. The only difference is how that would happen and how long a period of time would be involved.

Obama's current information on his site CONTRADICTS what his adviser is telling him. I feel that his advisers are providing the "lube" for what is to come next...Obama redefining his Iraq strategy. Quote:

And that's exactly what Obama has said in many debates and speeches. So the smear campaign doesn't work. If anyone thinks Obama is not intelligent enough to change policies to evolve with current events, they have their own issues and problems.

The only 'blind' ones are the ones who will smear him no matter what he says. You've made threads smearing him for wanting to go after the terrorists even though you seemingly agree. Your agenda is clear and transparent and very lame.

Besides being obviously confused Obama doesn't realize that a firm timetable for withdrawl isn't realistic. Patraeus has said so, his field commanders have said so. This country can't afford Obama's "guessing game" foreign policy. |

Obama gets the votes he needs, then he flip-flops. I have seen this typical behavior from a politician before.
How is addressing Obama's contradiction a smear? Seems that calling something smear is a sure way to avoid the issue. Last edited by AmericanDreamer : 04-10-2008 at 03:45 PM. |
