When Republicans want to go after Democrats they use the ol' socialist stereotype, that they are the only ones guilty of creating expensive social programs and benefits. But then Bush Republicans succumbed to a legion of billionaire Pharmaseutical Corporation and HMO lobbyists to create the medicare drug benefits. And that is called what? Socialism? Nope, that's OK because Bush did it. And to be precise, it was corporate welfare. Why do you think all of those lobbyists were town? If you trace the money, you will probably discover how many Republicans were wined, dined and bribed for their votes. And the PharmCorps and HMO's are now raking in profits hand over fist while the GAO clearly stated by its calculation this added $13 trillion to the longterm unfunded fiscal commitments and may end up bankrupting medicare.
So socialism for the billionaire corporations is OK but socialism for the public isn't? And the truth is we need get beyond the Bush tax cut and wild out of control spending and the Democrat tax and spend. Don't trust either party when in comes to actually paying down the debt.

What you've said is very perceptive Michael, John Pilger said that what we have now is a kind of socialism for the rich but capitalism for the poor.

Why do you think that an incompetent left wing administration is going to be any better than the mess that is Bush? Especially in light of the fact that the next four years are going to be spent cleaning up the "poop" pile that Bush left...

if gas continues to rise and the economy continues to tank, with repubs in the WH they will probably take the hit. as of now, at least, i would be surprised if obama is not the next president (based on current info and trends) |
