That's because he is trying to establish democracy over there. Really a democratic republic, but it still involves democracy.

No country larger than one city can be a Democracy, it is just not feesable. Republics are.

To the question at hand, I am against the electoral college because this is a republic and we need to vote for our representatives directly, and that includes the executive representative, The President.

We basically do, The electoral system is not direct vote counts, but your vote still matters just a much as in a straigh popular vote.

No it doesn't. In the electoral system each state gives electors equal to Senators+House members for the state. OH has 20, so if the person I vote for wins OH he gets 20 votes. 3 states do it differently that is closer to popular vote (2 (I think Nebraska and Maine) if you win the state election you get 2 electors then you get electors for each house district you win and Colorado just changed theirs if I recall where they made electoral districts for the state.). But this is where you get elections where the winner could have less popular vote than the loser (Bush v. Gore 2000).

Even though everything above is true, you get electors who will vote against the state's popular opinion, "faithless electors". The most recent was in '04 when Edwards got one Presidential elector:

The Electoral College - "Faithless Electors"

THE FAITHLESS NINE - Presidential Electors who have defected in the past

Isn't it fun to see our Presidential election system screw up.

The thing is most people seem not to care/want to know about politics. I know may people that just want to go down the list with R or D, regardless of their policies.
