Default McCain voted against banning torture!

I thought he was always outspoken against torture, having been tortured himself, during war. WTF?

But the Democrats passed it anyway. Of course Bush will probably veto it, he loves to violate the constitution.

Quote:
Today, the Senate brought the Intelligence Authorization Bill to the floor, containing a provision from Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) that establishes one interrogation standard, requiring the intelligence community to abide by the same standards as articulated in the Army Field Manual and banning waterboarding.

Just hours ago, the Senate voted in favor of the bill, 51-45.

Earlier today, ThinkProgress noted that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), a former prisoner of war, has spoken strongly in favor of implementing the Army Field Manual standard. When confronted today with the decision of whether to stick with his conscience or cave to the right wing, McCain chose to ditch his principles and instead vote to preserve waterboarding:

Mr. McCain, a former prisoner of war, has consistently voiced opposition to waterboarding and other methods that critics say is a form torture. But the Republicans, confident of a White House veto, did not mount the challenge. Mr. McCain voted "no" on Wednesday afternoon.

This is the part of the bill I am referring to.

Quote:
(Sec. 327) Prohibits any individual under the custody or control of an IC element, regardless of nationality or physical location, from being subject to any treatment or technique of interrogation not authorized by the U.S. Army Field Manual on Human Intelligence Collector Operations.

Interesting isn't it? The Republicans voted overwhelmingly to violate the US constitution by trying to legalize torture, while the Democrats voted for the bill to ban torture.

Mine too.

Bush will veto this.

But it's a good win for the good guys.

Call them and thank them tomorrow. We have to show our support so they don't back down.

Very interesting! and could there be more than meets the eye here? Are the Republicans or McCain reacting to a future situation, that the Dem's are ignoring thinking that the idea of takling to our enemies will mean change for the betterment. 2 sides of a very important coin. Our future....
I think you hit the nail on the head... Great Post. But give the meaning space.

First she scares me: Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) And the bill pasted 51 to 45. 45... Seems there is a lot of opinion that we might need this form of intell gathering ability. Another sign something is up.

Interesting isn't it? The Republicans voted overwhelmingly to violate the US constitution by trying to legalize torture, while the Democrats voted for the bill to ban torture.

Mind if I leave in the link?

U.S. Senate: Legislation Roll Call Vote.. looool broken like aww never mind. Later

It doesn't make sense, and his anti-torture stance was the one thing I respected McCain for...

mlurp, I don't understand your post. Why did you copy and paste what I posted without using quotes? It's hard to tell what you wrote and what you copied.

Your post is very vague. What are you trying to say? Please use quotes
and
without the space, so we can understand what's going on.

He's pandering to his base of radical conservatives who don't mind constitutional violations so they can illegally spy and torture and he's alienating everyone else.

Look and read what is there I quoted you and gave an opinion, it is all there. I could have left your part out true. But that doesn't change what I said.
There is that easier on your eyes? I removed the quotes just to please you.

To be fair and honset I haven't really looked hard at mccain. this does however make me have doubts. Well then again..when I saw him hug and support bush after the way the Bush campaign slandered Mccain in the 2000 campaign I had my doubts as well. I don't want hillary tho. If it was just the two of them I would really need to research their voting records.
