That person was probably a loon. Does he/she really think that there is no other reason to vote for Obama? If so, that makes they a fool, if not that makes them a minipulative liar.

That charisma may rally together many people that have been alienated and outside the political process. The potential is to form a Democratic majority of African Americans, Latino Americans, young people, etc... in future elections. So charism is very important.
And I agree, that is not all there is to Obama.

I don't think people voting for charisma instead of the best candidate is necessarily limited to the Democratic party. In this instance, though, that statement may be correct. I would have preferred Dennis Kucinich to be the Democrat's choice to run for for POTUS, though. I don't agree with everything he does; however, he seems to be a man of integrity which is the type of candidate this country needs from both major parties. Obama is just another typical politician, which is the last thing our country needs but which we keep getting.

It confirms your quote that most people here don't have much clue even which party he represents, but they all know who he is. Historically, I understand Richard Nixon was a hot favourite for election until he went head to head in an infamouse debate (against whom escapes me) and the other guy looked better and came across with more charisma on TV. That debate lost Nixon the election. He learned his lesson and scrubbed up and lost the five o'clock shadow for the next election. Charisma is crucial. Probably should not be the case, but it is the reality. |

Charisma is undoubtibly an asset, but it does not win elections or votes. Mitt Romney had way more charisma than McCain, but that didn't work so well for him. Obama does have very liberal stands on the issues, but what people like about him is that he will try to communicate with the rebulicans to work together.

First, I didn't say that Hillary doesn't, not yet anyway.
She help founded Media Matters which has openly admitted on the Ed Schultz show that it's watchdog tatics on the radiowaves were focused 100% on conservative talk. Ed asked CEO, David Brock, if he said something that was totally bogus and a bald face lie, would media matters take action to correct it? The answer was no, because "we [media matters] focuses on the conservative talk radio heads." Hillary called Cheney "Darth Vader," not eactly making an attempt to unify anything. Hillary has a history of ignoring those that she doesn't care about (like republicans and platonic primary states) and focusing on those that she does care about (democratics and Texas/Penn). She does not try to convince republicans of her policies, she does not try to show people that disagree with her that she is right. Obama goes to detroit and tells the auto makers his plan to cut auto emisions, which they don't like, but at least he isn't just pandering to his base and he goes out and trys to convince them that it needs to be done, and many of them reluctantly argeed with him.

The American sheeple have been voting mainly for charisma ever since John F. Kennedy.

The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. "I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up." The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation. "Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves." |
