Grouch, as one who has lived in Latin America, been engaged to a Latinoamericana, who still has many friends all over the region and who is planning to return within the year, I can say that you couldn't be further from the truth.
Latin Americans know damn good and well exactly what he did, both the good and the bad, and he remains an icon, one of the greatest symbols of what 'un americano' can achieve if you only fight for what you believe in and have the cojones to never back down.
