I am surprised that one claiming to know so much about Sharia would use stoning as a commonality under Islamic law, when most Islamic majority countries in the world don't use it at all.
Sharia is anything that deals with religion that is made into law. which could cover any number of things from divorce laws to capital punishment techniques. It is highly dependent on where you are. It doesn't have to be the big bad Boogey Man that you make it out to be at all (though in some areas it is).
