I see NO evidence that the Catholics are aligned in anyway with the Republican Christians that are evangelical, fundamentalist, PROTESTANT Christians. As a matter of fact, the highest concentration of Catholic voters usually vote Democrat. A good example of this is the Catholic support for JFK when he ran for office, for Bobby Kennedy and for Ted Kennedy.
The Pope stays out of national politics and so does the Dalai Lama. What the Dalai Lama is saying comes from his perspective as a Buddhist monk and very basic Buddhist concepts such as compassion. He has in fact said the WORLD needs to adopt more compassion.
It is a real stretch to try to line up both religious leaders as anti Bush.
