A Canadian citizen in th past was released from GITMO and he sued the Canadian Government. He won and the government offered him an official apology. (How can you really apologize for someone losing a couple of years of their life and being tortured). So I am sure the Canadian government is more than angry at the US kidnapping and detaining its citizen to play international cowboy.
The rationale for Guantanamo was to hold the most dangerous terrorists. The number of released prisoners is now in the 60 to 80 range. I'm sure most of them most likely have been recruited by terrorists. And most likely all of their extended families, clans and tribes have been alienated with America.
