Here is the underlying point that needs to be made. The British drew up the maps originally defining the borders of Iraq. They ignored the hundreds of years of sectarian and ethnic conflict. Why? They wanted one country to deal with for OIL.

A radical thought - maybe they shouldn't be kept together. Maybe that is precisely where we are going wrong. The Sunnis have hated Shia Muslims for hundreds of years since their sect was formed hundreds of years ago, as they recognize Muhammed's descendents as prophets. The bedoin Kurds are not ethnically the same as the main Sunnis tribes in Iraq (who claim to be of Persian ancestry). They have faced brutal bigotry and discrimination for hundreds of years.

The Sunni Baath Party and the Saddam regime are to blame for mass murders of Kurds and Shia Muslims. WHY WOULD THEY NOW WANT TO FORM A SINGLE GOVERNMENT IN COALITION WITH THE SUNNI MUSLIMS?

Our expectation is to do what no one else has ever been able to do over hundreds of years. So why sit there in Iraq holding our breaths waiting for reconciliation?

The national government should be reduced to a coalition of province leaders. Al Malaki needs to be removed as the one spokesperson for Iraq and the executive branch. The national legislature needs to be abolished in favor of province legislatures having the primary power of the legislative branch. In short, Iraq should become a coalition of semi independent provinces, as is already clearly stated in their constitution.
