This is precisely the problem with innovation. All of those millions of dollas going to grossly oveirndulge the billionaire oil corporations need to be stopped. That is simply an extra little butt kiss from the Republican legislators that have prostituted themselves out to big oil.
What we need is JUMP START money. In short, you see something like this and you have funding sources to get it into full production ASAP.

There have been over 1,600,000 Li-ion bateries recalled in the US alone. With that record no large car company is going to take the risk of accepting them without long term testing. Right now GM and Toyota are testing the crap out of this stuff, but don't expect to see it in a dealership until 2011- at the earliest.
One could easliy argue that the delay is caused by fear of sue-happy Democrat trial lawyers and Ralph Naderists than any Republican!
