I'm new here and am not certain of the political positions of the members. I too wonder about Obama and his learning the ropes after his inauguration. He has some wonderful people behind him who understand what he can and cannot do as Commander in Chief.
I believe in these forums who can keep track of all actions in D.C. I had hoped that in 2004, the Republicans would have forced a change in the White House to stop the waste and abuse from the Bush White House. I also fear the influence of the religious right who seemed anxious to remove some of the individual freedoms that had been part of the Bush campaign. As far as I can see, Bush did not keep a single promise which is actually better for all of us had he done what he threatened to do. The only promise he kept was for Faith-based Grants which, of course, kept the religious right on his side.
If and when Obama wins in November I am hoping all the forums will be aware of his actions. We cannot lose our guns unless the Suprreme Court stays as a balance of Conservative judges. Many of us tried to ask our Senators to stop the assault on our freedoms by accepting the two judges that Bush supplied. Alito and Roberts (both in for life) will continue to be directed by the RNC and we absolutely need a Liberal Justice for a balance. This must be watched.
Personally I trust Obama to back away from the Abortion Issue, allow Stem Cell research and I see no reason for him to disallow same sex marriages. We need congressmen and women to back him on this. The last item that concerns me is the Supreme Court Justices staying out of the State's decision especially on "Death with Dignity" that so far the Justices have made no move to stop the ongoing movement.
This has been tough for me to support Obama because I have been a Republican since Ike. The GOP at that time was for a limited governmernt especially when we are no longer at war. I worked for Goldwater and was crushed when Big Government won that race. I left the GOP after Bush 41 moved toward a One World Order for an American Empire and I never returned.
So I'm now an Obama supporter and will watch his actions from day one. But I see no reason for these forums not to start combining our political opinions to locate some new Congressmen.
