The Gospels don't exactly jive with one another. They give different accounts, and often, it's sparse. They were written after the fact by different people who couldn't even get their accounts of what happened straight.

You can automatically discount all the nonsensical stuff about miraculous happenings, though. Historic authors of antiquity were known for making **** up from Herodotus on down.
