I support the idea of a voucher system. The problem has been the people writing specific proposals for vouchers have spun their proposals to fit the agenda of a special interest group, such as religion.
A voucher system would give parents a choice including home schooling. What comes to mind is a family with five kids being home schooled. All have high test scores on state exams. They are all VERY musically talented and are being recruited by the prestigious music colleges.
In public school, it would be impossible to reach their level of a thoroughly enriched education, including facilitating their intense interest in music. They would have had a generic education in the company of other students with no motivaion for learning. They would have been thoroughly exposed to rap music, teen sex fixation, drugs, foul language, video games, iPods, cell phones, cheating on tests, and probably would get picked on by the Jocks for being nerds.
